Abstract:

Background: Hypertension has been known as the first risk factor causing death worldwide. Lifestyle-associated factors are crucial determinants of blood pressure level in these patients. Through self-care training, these factors can be modified. The aim of this study is to compare self-care training based on VARK learning style and presentation method on the lifestyle of hypertensive patients. Methods: ۸۸ hypertensive patients assigned into two ۴۴-subject groups as training based learning style and presentation. The self-care training was conducted in four ۶۰-minute sessions for the training based learning style group based on their learning style, and for the presentation group through lectures. To investigate the effect of training on the patients of both groups, pretest and posttest were performed using LSQ. Finally, statistical analysis was performed by SPSS ver. ۲۱Results: Before the intervention, no significant difference was observed in the mean score of the lifestyle dimensions and total lifestyle score between the intervention and control groups (P>۰.۰۵). However, after the intervention, a significant difference was seen in the mean difference before and after the intervention regarding the score of lifestyle dimensions and total lifestyle score between the groups (P<۰.۰۰۱).Conclusions: Training based on VARK learning style was more effective than the presentation method in in improving patients' lifestyles.
