Background and objective: Wireless sensor networks with hundreds of nodes enable remote monitoring in various fields such as medical care, environmental control, natural disaster reporting, military systems, security systems, traffic control and monitoring systems. The major challenge in these networks is the limitation of energy consumption, which directly affects network lifetime. That’s because sensors in wireless sensor networks usually work with battery power and limited life, so reducing energy consumption is very important.Method: In this study, the HMCCSR algorithm is proposed to reduce energy consumption in wireless sensor networks. In order to simulate and evaluate the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, we implemented ۴ different scenarios using the NS-۲ simulator.Results: By comparing the results obtained from the HMCCSR and DMCCSR algorithms, we find that the HMCCSR algorithm improves energy efficiency by ۲۰%, throughput by ۷.۴۹%, delay by ۱۲.۴۵%, packet delivery ratio by ۷.۷۵%, routing overhead by ۲۸.۷۳%, the death of the first node by ۱۲.۲۴% and the network lifetime by ۱۲.۵۹% in wireless sensor networks.Conclusion: The HMCCSR algorithm performs better compared with DMCCSR algorithm in wireless sensor networks.
