Abstract:

Loss evaluation is the first step in reducing the level of losses and thus improving the efficiency of electricity distribution networks and reducing costs. In the electricity market, it is also necessary to pay attention to the calculation of losses in order to exchange electricity. In this paper, methods for losses evaluation of power distribution networks, including direct methods, statistical methods, experimental methods, load percentage method, and up-down method, are described. Moreover, according to the level of available data and information from the distribution network, two methods are proposed in order to evaluate losses effectively. The proposed methods include the loss coefficient method as well as the calculation of the total losses of components for different consumers' clusters. The choice of these methods will be based on the initial evaluation of the available information of a network. For case study, these methods are applied to a real distribution network and the output of a sample feeder has been analyzed. The salient features of the methods are generalizability, flexibility and speed of calculations.
