Abstract:

This study analyzes the dynamic relationship between economic growth and/ CO۲ emissions in Iran and comparing the results with the United Arab Emirates, Qatar andthe Netherlands using the Environmental Kuznets Curve. The study looks at the direct relationship to determine the mutual effects of the two variables during the ۱۹۶۰-۲۰۱۴period. Using the World Bank data (WDI) and a panel data model, the study shows that the results support the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis in all countries under study. Even though Iran is in the first stages of developing and economic growth leads to environmental degradation but we are hopeful with economic growth and reaching the turning point the per capita CO۲ emission begins to reduction. Based on that, the authors conclude that environmental issues must be taken into consideration when legislation economic policies, use environmentally friendly technologies in the manufacturing and transportation sectors as well as using alternative modes of transport.
