The Impact of Project Management Knowledge Areas on Project success

The complicated nature of oil and gas projects demands the deployment of integrated project management methodologies to achieve the objectives, however, the availability of alternative methods, high rate of project failure, and limited available resources can make decision making a challenge for project managers. The objective of this study is to provide insight to project managers and organizations to the effect of project management knowledge areas on project success. Two pre-existing survey questionnaires (PIP and PMPQ) are deployed to collect data on demographic information, knowledge areas, and project success. The effect of knowledge areas on project success are analyzed through multiple regression analysis and the overall positive relationship between variables can be easily observed based on the result. The result of multiple regression analysis indicated that the most effective knowledge area on project success was integration management followed by resource management and riskmanagement.
