Abstract:

It is a matter of fact that for a passenger in railway system, accessing a facility located at stations like origin, destination, or transfer point is more desirable than visiting a facility at any other stations in his or her travel path. To access other stations, the passenger should get off the train, which increases the cost and time of travel. By introducing four different types of flow coverages model namely, strong, semi-strong, medium and weak coverage, station, the present paper aims to develop a mixed integer model for locating railway facilities based on the flow interception concept to capture a maximum flow-based demand. The proposed model has been tested for a random network problem and the computational experiment shows that commercial software is able to solve the model in reasonable time
