Abstract:

Due to the long lifetime of the thermal power plants and modern advances in material and design concepts at this field, one of the main concerns has been always increasing the efficiency of the power plant and increasing the power and capacity of each main equipment of power plants. Regarding the currently installed generators in power plants of Iran, this article is focused on upgrading the generator TY۱۰۹۴۶ power output by analyzing upgrade on cooling system and stator winding insulation system. For upgrade on cooling system, the conceptual design of the heat exchanger design has been investigated initially and the heat exchanger design checklist for the generator has been obtained. Then, the effective parameters in the design are identified and change in the heat exchanger parameters of the current generator is discussed. Results of the modified heat exchanger shows ۷% increase in generator power output. For upgrade on the stator insulation system, FAB technology has been employed. As a result of reduced main insulation thickness, electrical current is increased which enables the machine to generate more active power. Consequently, combination of two approaches employed in power upgrade, results in almost ۱۳% increase in turbo generator power output.
