Effect of lifestyle on Psychological Well-being and Severity of Menopausal Symptoms in Women during the Premenopausal Period

Abstract:
Background: The premenopausal period is a variable time range inthe last years of women's fertility period, which is associated withcontrasting physical and mental symptoms in different women. The aimof study was to determine the relationship between lifestyle andphysical and psychological symptoms of premenopausal period inwomen.Methods: This descriptive-analytic study was performed on ۴۰۰ womenreferring to Shahroud health centers during the premenopausal periodin ۱۳۹۶. Cluster sampling was done. The instruments used includeddemographic information questionnaire, lifestyle questionnaire (LSQ),Keys and Gyarmo well-being scale, and Hayman's MRS menopausescale. Data were analyzed by SPSS-۲۴ software. Descriptivecharacteristics were reported using central and dispersion statisticalindicators and frequency distribution: Pearson correlation test, t-test,and one way ANOVA were used. The general linear regression modelwas used to control conflicting variables. Significant level was set at ۰.۰۵.Results: The mean age of women was ۴۶.۵ ± ۲.۸ years. ۴۳.۸% ofwomen report severe hot flushes. The results of Pearson correlationcoefficient showed a significant and positive correlation between thetotal score of lifestyle with psychological well-being, the severity ofmenopausal symptoms, and education level (Pvalue < ۰.۰۰۱).Conclusions: Healthy lifestyle affects the psychological well-beingand decreases the severity of menopausal symptoms duringpremenopausal women, and appropriate education and counselingare essential in this regard.
