Horse jumping is one of popular sports around the world and automatic processing of jumping videos is a precious alternative to the manual solutions which facilitates further video analysis. Athlete tracking is an initial step to a wide range of applications, such as behavior and tactic analysis. In this paper, an efficient search mechanism based on particle swarm optimization (PSO), which is a stochastic optimization technique originated from the simulation of bird flocking or fish schooling, is applied for detecting horse rider. For this purpose, the swarm is first initialized and then begins searching for model corresponding to the rider. Experimental results demonstrate the robustness of the algorithm.
