Abstract:

The microgrid (MG) is a local smart grid that facilitates grid-integration of renewable energy resources (RESs) through an energy management system (EMS). The EMS is provided by the high level of a hierarchical control structure that is designed for economic reasons and for stabilizing the islanded/isolated MGs. In this article, the optimal energy management of a MG, including PV units, wind turbines, battery energy storage source (BESS), and microturbines, for the day ahead will be examined. The purpose of presenting this optimization model will be to minimize fuel costs and improve the use of RESs by planning the production of DERS at every hour of the next day. Due to the dynamic performance of the BESS, the problem modeling will be done as well as the factors affecting the battery life to achieve the optimal battery usage pattern and reduce associated costs
