Abstract:

Background: Due to the prevalence of psychiatric disorders in infertile women, psychiatriccounselors are one of the main components of the infertility treatment team. Therefore, it hasbeen seen in some cases that this group of women refuse to perform or follow up on counseling.However, counseling in these women helps to improve their physical, mental, spiritual, fertilityand thus reduce their medical expenses. The present study was conducted with a review of allavailable articles with the aim of investigating the reasons for not performing psychologicalcounseling in infertile women and collecting strategies to promote psychological counseling inthese women.Methods: This study uses the keywords Psychological counseling - infertile women - infertility -counseling and searches in pub med - Scopus- Science Direct-ISI databases using GoogleScholar and Worldcat search engines with a review of related articles from ۱۹۸۸ Done until۲۰۲۰.Results: By reviewing ۲۵۸۱ articles in general, based on the inclusion criteria, ۶۴ articles wereselected for the final review, of which ۴۹ were English and ۱۵ Persian, and the research wasconducted in two main areas: It was studied for infertile women and its solutions. only ۸% ofinfertile women use psychological counseling. Barriers in this area are divided into threecategories: patient problems, counselor problems and infertility clinic problems, which toincrease the participation of infertile women, counseling appropriate to the patient's culture,religion, lifestyle, attention to individual differences It is recommended to increase thecounselor's empathy and use methods such as mindfulness, mindfulness-based group counseling,BWI method, group counseling, problem-oriented coping, alternative method, texting andMBCIST method.Conclusion: Mental problems in infertile women is a very important and significant issue, whichcan be reduced by identifying barriers to psychological counseling and ways to improve thiscounseling to reduce the prevalence of mental health problems and its side effects. Therefore,despite the fact that the biggest obstacle in conducting psychological counseling for infertilewomen is the lack of complete information to them, not many studies have been done in thisfield and further study in this regard is recommended. Also, due to the very low statistics ofinfertile women referring to psychological counseling and not providing the necessaryinstructions in this regard, more attention to this issue is suggested in future studies.
