Abstract:

Beech waste wood (Fagus Orientalis) could be estimated as a valuable lignocellulosic source of second-generation bioethanol. Fagus Orientalis chips as a hardwood with approximately ۴۷% cellulose was pretreated with sodium hydroxide under optimal conditions to facilitate enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation. The pretreatment condition includes sodium hydroxide ۱۰ wt. %, temperatures of ۲۵ and ۷۰ œC during ۱ hour have participated. Analytical methods of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy images (SEM) were revealed the structural changes of lignin, crystallinity, and morphology of the samples. The glucose production and ethanol yield after fermentation with Saccharomyces cerevisiae were analyzed periodically.
