Abstract:
The article presents a study concerning the procedure of preparing emulsion samples for microscopic analysis using optical microscopy. W/O emulsion containing ۰.۳M DEHPA and span ۸۰ in kerosene was prepared for microscopic analysis. The influence of coverslip, rinsing the glass slide with solvent, dilution of the emulsion, and sample amount was studied. The results show that it is crucial to use a coverslip. By rinsing the glass slide with kerosene, the droplets of emulsion are not readily visible. Although using the organic phase to dilute the emulsion makes the image more visible, it wastes the organic phase and takes time. The sample amount affects the microscopic image of the emulsion so that by placing a very small amount of emulsion on the glass slide, a better image is obtained. Therefore, the best procedure to prepare an emulsion sample for microscopic imaging is to place a very small amount of emulsion on a glass slide and cover it with a coverslip carefully.
