Abstract:

The application of plasma to eliminate contaminants is one of the most effective and efficient methods to eliminate the environment from pollutants. There is little work has done for the simulation of plasma in chamber with the existence of flow in background. This research used Corona discharge method with a cylindrical electrode, also applied DC voltage for producing a smooth plasma medium. The simulation was conducted for both Argon and Nitrogen as inlet gas separately. Results show by improving the voltage the number density increases and for Nitrogen, we have to apply higher voltage to reach the same result in the chamber. In the other words, Nitrogen consumes more energy because of the higher binding energy of electrons in the outer circuits of Nitrogen molecules. By increasing inlet gas velocity (for both Argon and Nitrogen) the electron temperature is reduced more than the case with lower velocity or in other words, an increase of velocity reduces electron temperature, and makes the chamber cooler. Moreover, the most important reactions for both gases are elastic reactions. Because of inlet velocity the density of electrons, ions, excited, and neutral species in chambers are shifted to the right side of the chamber. Also because of the no-slip condition, the velocity magnitude is zero in both cases on walls and stagnation point of cylinder. These points also have a maximum value of vorticity in the medium.
