Abstract:

Objective: Childbirth experiences are a multidimensional process that is influenced by various factors. Our aim is to investigate the positive and negative Biopsychosocial factors affecting maternal childbirth experiences.Methods: our keywords were “childbirth experience”, “related factors”, “psychological”, “biological” and “social” and we did the search in PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct databases and Google Scholar search engine. We reviewed ۲۹ studies.Results: our results were divided into two categories of positive and negative factors. factors resulting into positive childbirth experiences were higher education, supportive family, active participation in childbirth preparation classes, giving birth in private and specialized maternity centers, self-sufficiency, autonomy, self-confidence, sense of security, motherhood acceptance, and negative factors were low level of education, pregnancy at a very young age, giving birth in educational hospitals, unsanitary delivery, lack of support and absence of spouse and family, fear of childbirth, anxiety and depression related to childbirth, patriarchal context of some societies, having the experience of rape or sexual assault.Conclusion: Social equality, availability of medical services for all equally, considering special facilities for the low-income group, diagnosing psychological disorder symptoms in prenatal visits by midwives and referring them in a timely manner before causing adverse effects, can help to create positive childbirth experiences
