Abstract:

When a super high-rise building swings due to an earthquake or a strong wind, its elevators can be damaged. We theoretically analyzed the swing of buildings, concluding that a control operation command should be issued by detecting the maximum value of seismic wave energy, which is closely related with seismic intensity. Further, since the swing caused by an earthquake differs from that caused by a strong wind, we developed a detector that can discriminate between the two causes and issue different control operation commands accordingly
