EFFECT OF EARTHQUAKE ON SPECIAL STRUCTURES

Analysis and design of elevated water towers and similar structures such as cooling towers and resevoirs are of special importance in high risk seismic areas. These structures, with closed cross-section and relatively large ratio of height to width, absorb a great amount of energy during an earthquake, hence, their stability should be studied carefully. In this paper, a real case which was damaged in recent Manjil earthquake is reanalyzed . The seismic loading proposed by the Iranian Code for Seismic Resistant Design of Buildings (ICSRDB) is also compared with other sources by applying them on this particular structure
