Abstract:

The Voctland/Western Bohemia swarm earthquake region is one of the seismically most active and peculiar areas in Central Europe. First instrumental record-ings are available since ۱۹۰۲. After the swarm in ۱۹۶۲ a local network was installed which has later been complemented by a regionel network. This al-lowed a very detailed analysis of the seismicity pattern of this area in space and time revealing interesting peculiarities and relationships to tectonics. Since the ۱۶th century historical records exist about the seismic activity in this area giving information on the duration, strength and area of shaking. Together with the very detailed macroseismic evaluation carried out since the and of last century these data revealed a ۷۴ +- ۱۰ years periodicity of major swarms and allowed to assess the seismic hazard in this area. The maximum possible intensity is. expected to reach ۷.۵۰ at the MSK
