Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate the comparative quality of human and Google translate for relative clauses in selected literary texts from Persian to English. English translation of randomly selected relative clauses from Persian literary texts of Sadegh Hedayat’s Boof-e-Koor (۱۹۷۲) and Dash Akol (۱۹۳۲), “Hey, people” (۱۹۴۱) and “my house is cloudy” (۱۹۵۲) by Nima Yooshij and “Friend” (۱۹۶۷) and “water’s footsteps” (۱۹۶۵) by Sohrab Sepehri were considered as the corpus of this study. The quality of translated relative clauses by human and Google translate were compared by Bleu score software. The findings revealed Google translate as a machine translation(Google translate) weak in translating relative clauses of literary texts from persian to English. The total mean of Bleu score software of the obtained data was calculated as ۹.۹۹. Computer programmers and translators can benefit from these results by recognition of the deficiency of machine translation(Google translate) in particular Google translate in rendering relative clauses in literary texts from Persian to English.
