Abstract:

One of the most common and easiest methods for protection of metals against corrosion is application of various organic coatings among which the epoxy-based coatings are the most famous and referable. The latter is very much due to the high chemical resistance, good barrier properties and adhesion to the metallic surfaces. Epoxies can protect the metals from corrosion by providing physical barrier between the harsh environment and the substrate. However, the solvent evaporation during curing process and/or mechanical damages result in the creation of micro-pores, micro-cracks and cavities within the coating, leading to the coating barrier properties decline. One strategy to overcome this problem is decreasing the number of pores and cracks inside the coating matrix through addition of various kinds of pigments and nano-pigments. In this work, the effects of a hybrid composite containing of multi-layered Graphene and Talc (MLGO/TAL) that Prepared by reflux method as a hydrophobic pigment on the corrosion and humidity resistance of epoxy coating were studied. Three epoxy coatings containing ۰.۵, ۱ and ۱.۵ wt% of MLGO/Talc were prepared and investigated by Salt spray, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, contact angle and so on. The results of the salt spray and humidity test showed an improvement in corrosion and humidity resistance of epoxy in the presence of ۱ wt% of MLGO/Talc.
