Abstract:

This paper is concerned with the cyclic inelastic analysis of steel members using the two-surface plasticity model in force space (۲SM-FS). First the procedure for determining of the ۲SM-FS parameters is presented and the values of the model parameters for circular, I and box sections are given. Then the accuracy of the ۲SM-FS is examined and verified by comparing the cyclic nonlinear sectional behavior of steel members obtained from the ۲SM-FS with those of the experiments and analysis using the two-surface model in stress space (۲SM-SS). Finally by employing the ۲SM-FS for sectional nonlinear behavior in a beam-column element formulation, cyclic inelastic analysis of steel members such as beam-columns and frames are carried out. The cyclic plasticity performance of the ۲SM-FS is discussed and verified against the experiments and analytical results using ۲SM-SS. It is shown that the ۲SM-FS provides a reasonably accurate analytical results while it has the advantage of more larger computational speed than that of the ۲SM-SS
