Abstract:

This paper discusses the cyclic behavior of built-up shear links that will be used in the retrofitted towers of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge in California. Two full-scale shear links were tested under severe cyclic displacement to study their cyclic behavior, establish their ultimate capacities, and determine their plastic rotations. The results of these tests showed that the current code specifications of shear links may be used to design and detail built-up shear links. However, the ultimate strength of the tested links exceeded the code specified value by more than ۴۰°/fL
