Abstract:

The current study investigated the Emotional Quotient (EQ) of Iranian senior high school EFL learners. In this regard, the EQ levels of the participants based on their performance on Mehta and Singh’s (۳۱۰۵) inventory was examined and a detailed analysis on the categories included in the inventory, namely self- awareness, self-motivation, emotional regulation, social awareness, social skills and emotional Receptivity was provided. The results indicated that the participants of the study were low competent language users as far as EQ was taken into account. Among various categories of EQ, Self-awareness and Social awareness were the first and last categories respectively.
