Abstract:

Solar water heaters (SWHs) are one of the most effective plans for general and easy use of solar energy to supplyhot water in domestic and industrial sectors. This paper gives a techno-enviro assessment of SWHs in large Iran cities,including Tehran, Tabriz, Mashhad, Shiraz, and Isfahan. The climate data used is extracted by using the MeteoSynsoftware, which is modeled in TSOL™. Results show the high potential of CO۲ emission reduction due tononconsumption of fossil fuels owing to the deployment of SWHs, and three cities Shiraz, Isfahan, and Tehran, had thehighest CO۲ mitigation by ۱۴۱۲ kg/y, ۱۳۳۱ kg/y, and ۱۲۱۳ kg/y, respectively. On average, SWHs had a thermalefficiency of ۴۵% and provided ۳۸% to ۵۲% of the hot water requirement of consumers. The findings have shown thepotential for the deployment of SWHs in Iran.
