Synthesis and characterization of Zn (II) and Cu (II) complexes of tetradentate N2O2 schiff base ligand

In this work, tetradentate N2O2- donor Schiff base has been prepared by reaction of 4-methyl-1,2- dinitrobenzene with 2-hydroxy-5-trobenzaldehyde. The Schiff base complexes have been synthesized from reaction of this schiff base with acetate salts of Cu (II) and Zn (II). The products have been investigated by elemental analyses, UV-vis, IR, 1HNMR spectra and meltying point. The IR spectra of the complexes were compared with free ligand to determine the changes that might have taken place during the complexation. The electronic spectrum of the complexes in DMF showed three absorption bands.The results of the elemental analyses are in good agreement with the porposed formula.
