Abstract:
Recognized as a kind of local bifurcation, Hopf bifurcations can happen in power system dynamics and as the system parameters pass through the bifurcation points, the nominal equilibriums of the system may lose their structural stability. It is the aim of this paper to study on Hopf bifurcations for power system stability analysis based on theso far developments in this field. Initially, Hopf bifurcations in dynamic power systems are demonstrated through mathematical equations. Next, a range of phenomena inpower systems that may result in Hopf bifurcations are examined. Furthermore, identifying of Hopf bifurcations are investigated and different techniques to analyze and control them are considered. In addition, various modeling levels with their related differential-algebraic equations are studied and Hopf bifurcation analysis of different order models of system are investigated taking into consideration the induction motors and impedance load conditions supplied by under-load tapchanger transformers (ULTC). The results of this paper reveal the crucial role of identification and analysis of Hopf bifurcations in power system stability assessment.
