Survey of caseous lymphadenitis in Saanen and Alpine goats breeds in Iran

Goats are beneficial animals and their milk, skin, hair and in some breeds wools are utilizable throughout the world. Recently raising of dairy goats has taken into consideration in Iran and it will have an important part of animal’s protein in Iran. the purpose of the present study was to isolate the bacteria from abscesses of caseous lymphadenitis in these two goat breeds. A total of ۱۲۱۰ goat (۷۵۰ Saanen and ۴۶۰ Alpine) were evaluated in this study. Lyme nodes were inspected and cultured. Parotid and mandibular lymph nodes were more affected and Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis as well as trueperella pyogenes were highest in culture. At present, all herds of Saanen and Alpine goats in Iran are infected with lymphadenitis, and it is necessary to implement a control program for this disease in the country.
