Abstract:
Introduction: In trauma patients, stress from fractures and surgical treatment can cause inflammatory and oxidative stress responses and reduces the immune response. We aimed to determine the prevalence and complications of the COVID-۱۹ disease among hospitalized orthopedic traumatic patients which underwent surgery.
Methods: In a retrospective study all patients admitted to Imam Khomeini Hospital of Sari from February ۲۰ to April ۲۰ ,۲۰۲۰, whom underwent surgery were enrolled.
Results: The data from ۱۰۱ patient was collected. ۲۹ patients had covid-۱۹. seven patients got COVID-۱۹ during hospitalization and ۲۰ patients were infected after surgery. length of hospitalization and complications was significantly higher in patients with COVID-۱۹. patients with novel corona virus had more chronic non-communicable disease(P=۰.۰۱) and orthopedic surgery showed more side effects in these patients(P=۰.۰۰۹).
Conclusion: The present study documented those patients with fracture especially with underlying health conditions are in greater risk of CIVID-۱۹ disease and surgery comes with more adverse effects.
