Abstract:

Due to the increase in population and people's concentration in cities, especially metropolitan areas, the need to develop and use intercity rail lines, including the metro, is strongly felt. Therefore, because these lines affect the surrounding environment, it can be said that this development within the city is more pronounced in many cases, including buildings adjacent to the subway. As the train moves on the rails, vibrations are generated from the soil's source around the tunnel and the building's foundation. This vibration and noise may cause inconvenience the residents of the buildings adjacent to the subway or cause damage to the buildings. In this paper, the necessity of this research will be explained by discussing the effect of structural parameters of buildings adjacent to the subway on the amount of reduction or intensification of vibrations caused by the subway. After presenting the necessity of this research, by examining the research done in recent years, the amount of vibration in different floors and components of concrete and steel buildings and each component's effect in reducing or increasing vibrations can be explained and interpreted. In the following, by presenting the results, the received vibrations due to the train's movement to the building's main components, including columns, walls, beams, slabs, foundations, and their effect on reducing or intensifying vibrations are investigated. The magnitude of this effect can generally vary depending on the type, dimensions, the frequency reached, and other parameters. In general, it can be said that increasing the cross-section of columns and beams, slab thickness, number, and thickness of walls is directly related to vibration reduction. The column's connection to the beam has an influential role in reducing vibrations, and parameters such as increasing the floors' height (column) and each floor's width will raise the vibration level
