Abstract:

Natural flyers have exceptional flight abilities, and their outstanding aerodynamic performance has garnered a lot of interest. However, the aerodynamic mechanism of birds' flapping wings kinematics is still poorly understood. The aerodynamic efficiency of an owl-like and Seagull-like airfoils with bio-inspired flapping kinematics derived from a free-flying owl wing has been computationally studied in this work. In the present paper, the numerical study of turbulent flow by SST k-ω turbulence method around airfoils taken from bird’s wings has been investigated. In different Reynolds numbers, including ۸۰۰۰, ۵۰,۰۰۰ and ۱۰۰,۰۰۰, the aerodynamic performance of selected and innovative airfoils is examined. Investigating of the results, shown that airfoils taken from birds in Reynolds numbers ۵۰,۰۰۰ and ۱۰۰,۰۰۰ show a better performance than Reynolds numbers ۸,۰۰۰. Meanwhile, Seagull airfoil showed a higher lift coefficient than other airfoils
