Abstract:

Electric power companies pay attention to the load following capability and economical operation of a thermal power plant. However, conventional PID controllers embedded in industrial control systems cannot always provide the optimum solution for such subjects. To cope with these problems, the optimization at supervisory level of combined cycle power plant control is investigated. The design of a predictive supervisory controller that optimizes an objective function in order to determine the set-points for given regulatory level is described. The proposed supervisory controller is applied to gas turbine of GILAN combined cycle power plant. Environment temperature variation in winter and summer considered in supervisory controller design and it’s compared with the control strategy of constant optimum setpoints. The simulation results show the improvement can be achieved in control with supervisory predictive control system, and these increased efficiency with 2% fuel consumption saving compared to conventional strategies
