Abstract:
An investigation of synthetic jet injection into a quiescent medium is presented based on comparing different regimes for laminar and turbulent flows. For turbulence modeling, two famous two-equation eddyviscosity models are employed, namely, standard k and standard k formulations. Considering mean streamwise and cross stream velocity contours, synthetic jet flow has two different ways in suction and blowing cycles as vortices can escape from orifice suction. Mean streamwise velocity variations on centerline are obtained and results are compared with the available numerical data. They all display a peak near orifice exit. Variation of maximum velocity is also compared with the other numerical and experimental data. Also, dissipation of vortices against both the nondimensional height and elapsing motion phase are depicted.
