Abstract:

Cement production process has been highly energy and cost intensive. Cement industry in the present scenario is under pressure due to increased competition, rising input costs, lower realization and reducing profit margins. The cement sub-sector consumes approximately 12–15% of total industrial energy use. Hence, it becomes imperative for this industry to continuously innovate more energy efficient techniques. Therefore, a state of the art review on the energy use and savings is necessary to identify energy wastage so that necessary measures could be implemented to reduce energy consumption in this sub-sector. This can be achieved by incorporation of modern processing techniques in cement production. The present paper highlights the available modern processing techniques in different areas of cement production and their expected benefits.
