Abstract:

Dual polarized antennas are utilized in telecommunication links and weather surveillance radars. Using an orthogonal mode transducer (OMT) is a way to have both vertical polarization (VP) and horizontal polarization (HP). Here a reflector antenna is presented in which an OMT technique is used to have both orthogonal modes. The antenna is optimized in x-band of the frequency for aforementioned applications. An OMT section attached and matched to a corrugated conical horn is used to feed the reflector antenna. Besides the advantageous such as beam forming and matching, the corrugated structure of horn helps to have stable phase center. Several edges are also used inside the input ports of OMT section to improve the matching of both input ports of the feed to the waveguide of power transmission. Regarding to the average phase center positions of the feed horn, the feed horn is placed in the focal point of the parabolic reflector. The radiation characteristics of the feed horn and reflector antenna are calculated and demonstrated in the paper. High gain, low side lobe and back lobe levels with narrow beam width in both E and H planes are some of the characteristics of the designed reflector antenna.
