Abstract:

Thermoeconomic optimization of plate fin heatexchanger with similar (SF) and different (DF) or nonsimilarfin in each side are presented in this work. Forthis purpose, both heat exchanger effectiveness and totalannual cost (TAC) are optimized simultaneously usingmulti-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm.The above procedure are performed for various massflow rate in each side. The optimum results reveal thatno thermoeconomic improvement is observed in thecase of same mass flow rate in each side while botheffectiveness and TAC are improved in the case ofdifferent mass flow rate. For example, effectiveness andTAC are improved ۰.۹۵% and ۱۰.۱۷% respectively, forthe DF compared with SF. In fact, the fin configurationshould be selected more compact in a side with lowermass flow rate compared with the other side in thethermoeconomic viewpoint. Furthermore, for thethermodynamic optimization viewpoint both SF and DFhave the same optimum result while for the economic(or thermoeconomic) optimization viewpoint, thesignificant decrease in TAC is accessible in the case ofDF compared with SF.
