Abstract:
Every year, several earthquakes occur in different parts of the world, which occur with short and long duration of the earthquake, and produce different damages. Duration itself is expressed in different definitions. Various studies have been conducted on the relationship between earthquake duration and intensity of damages of structures. In this article, by reviewing previous researches and authors' experiences, the factors affecting the seismic vulnerability of buildings along with earthquake duration are studied. In this regard, the multi effects of three factors of earthquake duration based on disparate definitions (Significant duration, Bracketed duration, Uniform duration and cyclic duration), material and height of the structure on the damage of buildings has been investigated. In conclusion, an attempt has been made to provide a summary of all the factors affecting the damage of buildings with different definitions of duration and other factors.
