Abstract:

Introduction: Today, there are various methods for treating cancer, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages depending on the type of cancer, and as science advances, new treatments are discovered. In this article, we talk about brachytherapy, which is one of the treatment methods for cancer. Methods: This review study was conducted using the keywords cancer - modern treatment – Brachytherapy and similar Persian words in electronic sources. Electronic resources include Google - Google Scholar - Iran Doc, etc Results: Brachytherapy or internal radiation therapy is a technique for treating cancer. In conventional radiation therapy, radioactive radiation is emitted from outside the patient's body, but in brachytherapy, the source of the radioactive radiation is placed inside or near the tumor tissue. In brachytherapy, treatment is limited to the tumor and does not damage healthy tissues. A variety of treatment methods with brachytherapy High dose brachytherapy High-dose brachytherapy is an outpatient procedure, meaning that each treatment session is short and does not require hospitalization. During this procedure, radioactive material is placed in the body for a short period of about twenty minutes. This treatment may need to be done once or twice a day or over several days and weeks. Low dose brachytherapy In this procedure, a low dose of radiation is released over time over several hours to several days, and the patient will be in the hospital during this time. A brachytherapy device may be inserted into the body during surgery and will require anesthesia or anesthesia. Conclusion: In this article, we discuss the method of brachytherapy, the benefits of which include that the tissues around the tumor are not damaged, and also this treatment method has different courses that are determined and started by a doctor.
