Abstract:

Introduction: Cancers are one of the main causes of death and the main obstacle to increasing life expectancy worldwide. The incidence and mortality rate is increasing every year and it imposes many physical, psychological and economic problems on the individual, family and society. Methods: The present study was a brief review study designed in ۲۰۲۱. The search was conducted in international and national databases, including PubMed and Scopus. Articles that reported on cancer statistics around the world were reviewed. Summaries of articles published in congresses and conferences were excluded from the study. Initially, ۱۱ articles in English were finally evaluated. Results: A review of various studies found that the most common cancer in men in the world is lung cancer, and prostate and non-melanoma skin cancers are in the next ranks. The most common cancer in women in the world is breast cancer, and lung and cervical cancers are ranked second and third. The most common cause of cancer death in men is lung cancer, followed by liver and stomach cancer. In women, the most common cause of cancer death is breast cancer in women, followed by lung and cervical cancer. Conclusion: Different results showed that the most common cancer in the world and also the most common cause of cancer death in men and women are lung cancer and breast cancer in women, respectively. Therefore, holding training courses and conducting periodic examinations for people in the community, can be effective in preventing and controlling cancer.
