Abstract:

System Dynamics (SD) Approach is among the most applicable methods in water modeling due to its exclusive potentials. Because of its capability of modeling complex systems with numerous variables and main components and its ability to analyze sensitivity and optimization, this method can be considered as a reliable and decision support solution for integrated water resources modeling in main basins. VENSIMDSS as the most common and applicable computer program in SD Approach is known. In the present research, besides explaining principles and concepts of water resources development, IWRM, SD Approach, and capabilities of VENSIM-DSS, attempt has been made to discuss the modeling of the current situation and future development scenarios of Urmia Lake basin. Moreover, this study indicates how all modeling stages of IWRM from modeling of current situation to multi-criteria decision making of development options can be implemented by SD Approach and VENSIMDSS and provides a comprehensive decision support system for managers and decision makers
