The Effect of Explicit Teaching of Robert Frost Literary Figures on Iranian EFL Learners’ Reading Comprehension abstract

The present study investigated the effects of explicit teaching of Robert Frost’s literary figures on reading comprehension in Iranian advanced learners. To attain the purpose of the study, 30 Iranian advanced learners of English as a Foreign Language (EFL) were selected. They were aged 19 -28 years old. These EFL learners were later administered to an Oxford Placement Test to ascertain their homogeneity regarding their English language proficiency. The participants were classified into experimental and control groups. During the treatment period, the control group underwent traditional based instruction. The experimental group was instructed using the explicit teaching of Robert Frost’s literary figures. The results revealed that explicit teaching of Robert Frost’s literary figures had a significant effect on learners' reading comprehension. The findings also demonstrated that the experimental group outperformed the other group in the test of literary figures. The findings are applicable in the pedagogy context as well as for further research.
