Abstract:

A total of 18 cylindrical marlstone specimens obtained from 5 boreholes at Vanak Dam Site are investigated. The specimens were divided into two dry and saturatedgroups. Two series of static and dynamic tests were conducted on the samples. The uniaxial compressive strength (UCS), static elastic modulus (ES) and Poisson’s ratio(ν) were obtained using the uniaxial compressive test. The dynamic elastic modulus (Ed), shear modulus (G) and dynamic Poisson’s ratio of the rocks were also obtained using ultrasonic wave test. The correlation between static (UCS and ES) and dynamic(Ed and νd) properties of the samples were derived for both dry and saturated specimens. The influence of some physical properties such as the moisture contentand the porosity on the dynamic properties has also been studied. The results reveal suitable correlations between the UCS, ES and the dynamic wave properties
