Abstract:

In order to investigate the effect of methanol and glycine betaine application on yield, destructive biomarkers and antioxidant enzymes activity of different fodder beet cultivars, this experiment was conducted as a combined split-split plot based on randomized complete block design with ۳ replications in Qom and Hamedan, Iran sites. Theconcentration of methanol in ۳ levels (control, ۱۵ an d ۳۰% by volume of methanol) as the first treatment, glycine betaine in ۲ levels (control and ۴ g.L-۱ per methanol) as thesecond treatment and different cultivars at ۶ levels as the third factor, were considered. Foliar spraying was performed at three intervals every two weeks. The results showedthat the sites had a significant difference in most of the evaluated traits. Methanol spraying also made a significant effect on root yield, sugar, potassium and sodium contentand some antioxidant enzymes activity such as catalase, superoxide dismutase, rubisco and malondialdehyde. Glycine betaine foliar application showed significant differences in root yield, sugar, potassium and sodium content, activity of enzymes and biomarkers. Genotypes also differed in some of the evaluated traits. Based on the results, the application of methanol and glycine betaine are recommended to improve the quantitative and qualitative traits of fodder beet under similar conditions.
