Abstract:
A vital task in water resources management is the optimal planning of water delivery through an intelligent system. This paper presents a tree growth optimization (TGO) algorithm to estimate the optimal storage capacity of dams. TGO is an efficient strategy that achieved encouraging results on different optimization problems. The proposed algorithm models the capacity of reservoir estimating as an optimization problem. The objective is to accurately estimate the capacity of a dam considering the reservoir inflows, evaporation, rainfall, the current reservoir storage, and outflow parameters. With a test on benchmark scenarios, the proposed TGO algorithm obtained better results compared with counterpart methods. In terms of the root mean square error, mean absolute error, and Nash Sutcliffe’s coefficient, TGO generated ۰.۰۳۷, ۰.۴۱, and ۰.۷۴, respectively
