Abstract:

The most common structural material is concrete. The production of ordinary cement-based concrete releases a considerable volume of carbon dioxide into the air, exacerbates the greenhouse effect, and provokes global warming, one of the most critical issues in this era. Hence, the utilization of environmentally friendly materials seems necessary. Geopolymer concrete is a low carbon emission material that has been studied for decades, and it could be used instead of ordinary cement concrete. The compressive strength of slag-based geopolymer concrete has been investigated in the presented study. Alkali activator was a mixture of sodium silicate (SS) and sodium hydroxide in the SS/N ratio of ۱.۵, ۲, and ۲.۵. Slag was partially replaced with Rice Husk Ash in ۵, ۷.۵, ۱۰ percent. In the other set of specimens, slag was partially replaced with natural zeolite in ۵, ۱۰, ۱۵, and ۲۰ percent. This investigation concluded that both pozzolans reduce the compressive strength, but SS/N directly relates with compressive strength.
