Abstract:
Nanotechnology is one of the most active research areas that encompass a number of disciplines including civil engineering and construction materials. Currently, the most active research areas dealingwith cement and concrete are: understanding of the hydration of cement particles and the use of Nano-size ingredients such as alumina and Nanocarbon tubes particles. CNT are expected to have several distinct advantages as a reinforcing material for cements as compared to more traditionalfibres. First, they have significantly greater strengths than other fibres, which should improve overall mechanical behavior. Second, CNT havemuch higher aspect ratios, requiring significantly higher energies for crack propagation around a tube as compared to across it than would be the casefor a lower aspect ratio fibre. Thirdly, the smaller diameters of CNT meansboth that they can be more widely distributed in the cement matrix with reduced fibre spacing and that their interaction with the matrix may bedifferent from that of the larger fibers. Using the CNT reinforced cement can reduce probability of casing collapse in oil and gas wells. Gas migration is one of the cementing problems in gas wells which using CNT in cement can reduce amount of gas migration.
