Abstract:

Sustainable wood processing requires improved timber recovery and wood processing efficiency at sawmills due to environmental constraints on timber harvesting, the use of fast growth or small timbers, and increased demand for structural grade lumbers for wood products production. Reducing saw blade kerf is a crucial way in wood processing to reduce wood waste. However, because many parameters affect wood cutting such as diverse wood properties, the cutting tool suffers from compression and thermal stress, so very thin blades face problems like waviness, thermal deviation in band saw and circular saw. We have designed a double-side circular saw machine that uses a circular saw blades ranging from thin kerf (≤۲.۳۸۱mm), micro kerf (≤۱.۵۸۷mm). We have used ۰.۵ mm cutting kerf blade to cut ۳cm boards in multi blade ripsaw and ۶cm boards in double-side saw machine. It is useful to cut lamellas or wear layer and it is very beneficial to use it in a multi-blade ripsaw for cutting parquet, decks, corner profiles and narrow boards. It reduces the waste ۱۰-۱۵ percent compared to band sawmill with ۱.۵ mm kerf. This high precision double-side cutting eliminates resawing and reduces surface planing by improving surface quality.
