The present report describes a convenient novel synthetic to method synthesize quinazolin-۴(۳H)-ones from simple and readily available ۲-aminobenzamide and benzaldehyde in the presence of catalyst ZnCl۲-SiO۲ giving corresponding ۲-phenylquinazolin-۴(۳H)-one derivatives ۳A-۳F. These newly synthesized products have been characterized by FT-IR, ۱H-NMR, and mass spectroscopic techniques.
