Abstract:

Background: The motivation of nurses to improve their qualifications is essential in the healthcare delivery system. Motivating nurses toward participation in learning activities improves their knowledge, skills, and professionalism. The present study aimed to identify the learning motivation among Iranian clinical nurses and its relationship with the quality of care in health centers.Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional research was conducted at five hospitals affiliated with Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in ۲۰۲۱. Sampling was done by the random categorical cluster sampling method, and ۳۰۰ nurses were selected and completed the demographic information form, the Quality Patient Care Scale, and the researcher-made learning motivation questionnaire. Data analysis was performed by SPSS software version ۲۵.۰.Results: The mean and standard deviation of the age of the nurses were ۳۲.۹ ± ۶.۲, ranging from ۲۲ to ۵۵ years. Most of the studied nurses were female (۷۰.۰%, ۲۱۰ cases). The mean score of the nurses’ learning motivation was ۱۰۴.۶ ± ۱۱.۱ (out of ۱۳۰). The mean score of the nurses’ quality of care scores was ۲۰۴.۷ ± ۲۴.۸ (out of ۲۶۸). The Pearson correlation coefficient test indicated a significant linear relationship between learning motivation and quality of care in the studied nurses (p < ۰.۰۰۱, r = ۰.۳۱, ۹۵% CI: ۰.۳۰۷-۰.۳۱۳).Conclusion: Because of the direct relationship between learning motivation and quality of care, it is recommended to adopt appropriate methods for promoting nurses’ learning motivation. This may help increase the quality of care as an essential goal of nursing and the health system.
