Investigation of antioxidant activities of some medicinal plants from eastern Iran

Abstract:

The aim of this study is to examine the antioxidant activity of sequentially extracted hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol extracts of Ferula latisecta, Dorema kopetdaghense, Dorema ammoniacum, Artemisia kopetdaghensis, Berberis integerrima, Eryngium bungei, Helichrysum graveolens, Hymenocrater bituminosus, Nepeta bracteata, Nepeta glomerulosa, Perovskia abrotanoides, Pimpinella aurea, Persian rose (Rosa persica), and Thymus transcaspicus. In this study, the plants were collected from Khorasan region and plant extracts were obtained by sequential extraction method. DPPH free radical scavenging method was used to evaluate the antioxidant potential of various concentrations of the extracts.The results showed that methanol extracts of A. kopetdaghensis, P. aurea, N. glomerulosa, R.persica and H.bituminosus by ۰.۰۰۹, ۰.۰۱۷, ۰.۰۴۱۶, ۰.۰۴۴ and ۰.۰۸۵ IC۵۰, ethyl acetate extract of R.persica, N.glomerulosa, H.bituminosus, P.abrotanoides and D.ammoniacum by ۰.۰۳۵, ۰.۰۳۶۴ , ۰.۰۴۲, ۰.۰۵۱ and ۰.۰۶۸ IC۵۰ and hexane extract of D.ammoniacum and P.abrotanoides by ۰.۰۴۱ and ۰.۰۴۳۸, IC۵۰ had higher antioxidant activity respectively. BHT was used as standard antioxidant(IC۵۰=۰.۰۱۷mg/mL).
