Abstract:

Today, in advanced and developing societies, cancer is a major and fundamental problem for human health. Conventional methods such as surgery, chemotherapy, etc. have limitations that have led to the development of new methods of treatment such as hyperthermia. One of the best options for making thermal seeds is to use glass ceramic. among the methods of making glass ceramic for use in hyperthermia, glass prepared by sol-gel method is more popular than melting method due to its high biocompatibility. In this study, the glass ceramic of the system (۶۰-x) 〖SiO〗_۲-(۱۰+x)FeO-۲۰CaO-۱۰〖Na〗_۲ O ,۰≤x≤۳۰ is prepared by sol-gel method. Precursers used for this study, Tetra Ethyl ortho-silicate (SiC_۸ H_۲۰ O_۴), calcium nitrate tetrahydrate (Ca (NO₃) ₂۴H₂O), sodium nitrate (NaNO₃) and iron nitrate (Fe (NO₃) ₃) were selected. Distilled water and ethanol were selected as solvents and the precursers ratio was ۵: ۱. The synthesis temperature was ۲۵℃ and the aging time was ۲۴ hours. Heat treatment of the samples was performed at a temperature of ۶۸۰℃ and ۸۴۰℃ and XRD result shown that with increasing the percentage of iron in the base composition, the maghemite phase intensity increased. In FTIR spectroscopy, Si–O–Si asymmetric stretching were observed at wavelength ۱۰۱۶ cm^(-۱), which was reduced to lower wavenumbers by decreasing the percentage of silica. It was also found that adding iron oxide to the glass composition up to ۳۰% by weight, iron acts as a glass network former and at higher percentages acts as glass network modifer.
